Formulation of MASTOSEC-T® contains the best antimicrobials for controlling Gram-positive bacteria growth, which are the main mammary gland colonizers during dry period. It is known that the best way to prevent clinical mastitis is with an efficient drying program. Additionally it has been shown that a therapy with an aggressive antimicrobial during drying offer better milk production results in the whole herd at next cycle. For getting an excellent drying program, there must be a very long acting antimicrobial. Cloxacillin, benzatine salt, in special vehicle of MASTOSEC-T® offers the clinician a long action that goes beyond labor, avoiding growth and colonization of Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus agalactie or St. dysgalactie. Although Gram-negative bacteria are not a problem, during drying period, the presence of dihydrostreptomycin cover the eventual possible infection if drying was not fully achieved, and also because one of common etyologies are Streptococcus sp. Synergic action of the β-lactamic cloxacillin and penicillin G benzatine with that of aminoglicosid dihydrostreptomycin of de MASTOSEC-T® over this bacterial genre.

Design of de MASTOSEC-T® considered that penicillin G is still the most efficient antimicrobial available against genre Streptococcus sp., but because of the appearance of Streptococcus sp., strains resistant to penicillin G, it was considered very useful to include cloxacillin in formulation, because it is resistant to penicillinase or β-lactamase action and remains active against 95% of this bacterial genre with levels as low as 0.5 a 1.0 μg/ml of active ingredient. This is why it is known as the ant-staphylococcus penicillin. Additionally, combination in MASTOSEC-T® offers protection against infections produced by Corynebacterium pyogenes, bacteria from genre Clostridium sp., Haemophilus sp. and Pasteurella sp.

It is important that veterinarian recognize drying importance of the preparation (MASTOSEC-T®) for clinical mastitis, because it effects are not interchangeable.
